The Catalyst GIK Incubator’s STEAM education based start-up Bit Bots was announced a provisional winner by the ITU Innovation Challenge 2019, and were invited to attend the YILF 2019 (Young ICT Leader’s Forum) in Busan, Republic of Korea. The event was held in Busan from 3rd to 6th of September 2019 and Bit Bots was represented by Rahim Iqbal, Bit Bots was the only start-up from Pakistan attending the event. Bit Bots was announced challenge winner 2019 for Ecosystem Best Practice Challenge.

International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is the United Nations specialized agency for information and communication technologies – ICTs.  The Young ICT Leaders’ Forum is an annual event organized by ITU and Busan Metropolitan City. It gathers youths worldwide to learn and to share ideas about ICT development and innovations. The 6th edition of the Young ICT leaders 2019 was under the overall theme of “Mind the gap: Sustainability and Impact in Smart Cities”. 

For the last 10 months Bit Bots is trying to address the problem of rote education in Pakistan, and are currently incubated at The Catalyst GIK Incubator. STEAM is an educational approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics as access points for guiding student’s inquiry, dialogue and critical thinking, Bit Bots provides science, technology and robotics based products and services for local market at an affordable price. Members of the Bit Bots concerned with the knowledge of Artificial Intelligence and multithreading technology were given a representation and demontration on parallel processing by Mr. Ahmed Amin; the co-founder of GS RichCopy 360.

Rahim Iqbal who was present in Busan, Republic of Korea said “This event has been a great learning experience for me, I am amazed by the attention and praise my idea received from the foreign community. YILF gave me a new confidence in myself and my idea, I made many new friends and met the change makers from multiple nations. It’s amazing to see how innovative people are trying to make a difference in their countries and are working to make this world a better place for everyone”.

The Rector GIK Institute Mr. Jehangir Bashar Congratulated the team on representing the Institute and the country on a global platform.
