Softcom’ 25 by ACM 24th – 26th January 2025

From 24th to 26th January 2025, the ACM Student Chapter at GIKI, under the Department of Student Affairs, organized Softcom’ 25, one of Pakistan’s premier student-led computing and technology events. The competition brought together innovators, programmers, and entrepreneurs from across the country to showcase their technical expertise, exchange knowledge, and solve real-world challenges through technology-driven solutions.

This event advanced Gender Equality (SDG 5) by ensuring inclusive participation, Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8) by fostering entrepreneurial opportunities, Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure (SDG 9) by promoting technological development, and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17) by creating collaborations among students, academia, and industry professionals.

All Pakistan Science Fair 25 (APSF) by GIKI Science Society 31st January – 02 Feb 2025

From 31st January to 2nd February 2025, the GIKI Science Society, under the Department of Student Affairs, hosted the All Pakistan Science Fair 25 (APSF), a premier platform for young innovators and researchers to showcase groundbreaking projects and scientific solutions. The event encouraged creativity, innovation, and collaboration among students from across the country, inspiring them to address real-world challenges through science and technology.

The fair strongly resonated with Quality Education (SDG 4) by promoting experiential learning, Affordable and Clean Energy (SDG 7) through sustainable energy-focused projects, and Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure (SDG 9) by fostering technological advancement and scientific research for future development.

Micathon’25 by Microsoft Club 21st – 23rd Feb 2025

From 21st to 23rd February 2025, the Microsoft Club organized Micathon’25, a high-energy hackathon under the Department of Student Affairs. The event provided a platform for students to collaborate, code, and innovate solutions to real-world challenges. With teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving at its core, Micathon’25 empowered participants to enhance their technical expertise while fostering an inclusive learning environment.

The hackathon contributed to Gender Equality (SDG 5) by encouraging diverse participation, Quality Education (SDG 4) through skill development, Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8) by nurturing entrepreneurial ideas, and Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure (SDG 9) by promoting technology-driven innovation.

Science Marathon by GIKI Science Society 9th September 2024

The GIKI Science Society, under the Department of Student Affairs, organized the Science Marathon at GIKI on 9th September 2024. This interactive event featured a series of science-based challenges and activities designed to test participants’ knowledge, creativity, and problem-solving skills. It brought together students from various disciplines to engage in healthy competition and foster a passion for scientific exploration.

By encouraging innovation, analytical thinking, and collaborative learning, the event supported SDG 4 – Quality Education and SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, inspiring students to apply scientific principles to real-world challenges.

Technical Info Session by Team Invictus 9th September 2024

Organized under the umbrella of the Department of Student Affairs, Team Invictus—GIKI’s only team to represent Pakistan at the AIAA Design/Build/Fly Competition—held a technical info session on 9th September 2024 at FME MLH. The session introduced Batch 33 & 34 induction procedures and showcased the team’s global achievements in aerospace design and innovation.
This initiative supports SDG 4 (Quality Education) by promoting technical learning and hands-on experience, and SDG 5 (Gender Equality) by encouraging inclusive participation in STEM fields.

Microsoft Club Info Session 9th September 2024

The Microsoft Club at GIKI, under the guidance of the Department of Student Affairs, organized an insightful Info Session to introduce students to the club’s mission, future initiatives, and the diverse learning and leadership opportunities it offers. The session highlighted pathways for students to enhance their technical expertise, engage in real-world problem-solving, and explore global tech competitions.

SnP Intra GIK Event by NETRONIX 13th September 2024

The NETRONIX Society, under the Department of Student Affairs, organized Shut-up N Play (SnP), an intra-GIK e-gaming event, on 13th September 2024 at GIKI. The event brought together gaming enthusiasts from across the campus to compete in a variety of popular e-sports titles, fostering teamwork, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills in an engaging environment.

By enhancing technical and cognitive skills while promoting innovation in digital entertainment, the event aligned with SDG 4 – Quality Education and SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure.

Technical Workshop on Rocket by IET and Rocket Engineering Team 20th September 2024

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Society, in collaboration with the Rocket Engineering Team and under the Department of Student Affairs, organized a Technical Workshop on Rocket at GIKI on 20th September 2024. The workshop introduced students to the fundamentals of rocket design, propulsion systems, and aerodynamics, offering hands-on insights into the engineering and innovation behind aerospace technology.

HUAWEI ICT Road Show session by NETRONIX 7th October 2024

On 14th October 2024, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) in collaboration with SMEP organized a SolidWorks Information Session under the department of student affairs at giki. . The session aimed at equipping students with practical technical skills, fostering innovation, and promoting sustainable engineering practices. From 29th November to 1st December 2024, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) GIKI Chapter hosted the 18th National Design Build Fly Competition (DBFC). Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology (GIKI) and Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company (SECMC) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote industry-academia collaboration. This partnership focuses on joint training programs, conferences, publications, material exchange, and industrial visits, creating a platform for students, researchers, and professionals to collaborate on innovative projects and practical solutions. Through this MoU, GIKI students and faculty will gain direct exposure to industry practices and cutting-edge technologies, while SECMC will benefit from the academic expertise and research capabilities of GIKI.

This collaboration aligns closely with SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, which emphasizes the importance of fostering innovation, building resilient infrastructure, and promoting sustainable industrialization. By facilitating industry-academia partnerships, this initiative supports the development of more robust educational frameworks and practical training programs that equip students with the skills necessary for the evolving demands of the workforce. Shell Tameer team conducted campus drive at @The Catalyst GIK Incubator

The Shell Tameer team conducted a campus drive at The Catalyst GIK Incubator, engaging with students and aspiring entrepreneurs to explore opportunities for innovation, entrepreneurship, and industry collaboration. The drive aimed to identify and support talented individuals with entrepreneurial potential, offering them the resources, mentorship, and networks necessary to turn their ideas into impactful businesses. Through this initiative, Shell Tameer seeks to foster a culture of innovation and sustainable business practices, empowering students to create solutions that address real-world challenges and contribute to economic growth.

This initiative is directly aligned with SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, which focuses on building resilient infrastructure, promoting sustainable industries, and encouraging innovation. By supporting entrepreneurship and fostering the development of new businesses, the campus drive contributes to creating more inclusive and sustainable industrial practices. Ecozindagi a Start-Up from Pak Austria Fachhochschule has Participated in Zindigi Prize Competition & secured 8 Position among 80 plus Start-Ups held on 23rd August to 25th August 2024 at GIK Institute

Ecozindagi ( Start-Up) focuses on sustainable solutions for waste management and renewable energy. They specialize in converting organic waste into valuable resources like compost and biogas through innovative technologies. Their mission is to create environmentally friendly, scalable solutions that promote energy self-sufficiency and contribute to a cleaner, greener future for communities.

 

Industrial Study Visit of FEE Students to Bestway Cement Limited Taxila

On December 1, 2022, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (FEE) at GIK Institute organized an industrial visit to Bestway Cement Limited, Taxila for the second-year students of FEE. Faculty members Dr. Waleed Tariq Sethi, Engr. Afaq Hussain, and Mazhar Javed accompanied the students during the visit. The students explored key facilities, including the 132 kV Electrical substation, the 20 MW Solar farm, the cement manufacturing processes, and the waste heat recovery power plant.

This visit directly aligns with SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, as it provided students with a firsthand understanding of how electrical engineering is applied in industrial settings, particularly in the cement manufacturing sector. By exploring renewable energy sources like the solar farm and learning about energy efficiency technologies like waste heat recovery, the students were exposed to innovative solutions for sustainable industrial processes. The visit also showcased the integration of clean energy technologies and advanced manufacturing processes, reinforcing the importance of sustainable infrastructure in driving economic growth and industrial innovation.

Workshop on ” Business Model Canvas” by Mr. Waqas Ali

A workshop on the “Business Model Canvas” was conducted by Mr. Waqas Ali, an entrepreneurial expert with a decade of experience in business management, marketing, and startup incubation. With an MBA and certifications from Google and Meta in digital marketing, Mr. Waqas has successfully led social media campaigns and mentored numerous startups through his role at the Business Incubation Center at the University of Haripur. His passion for innovation and fostering university-industry collaborations enables him to drive impactful change, helping startups thrive through strategic partnerships and technology transfer. During the workshop, Mr. Waqas shared valuable insights on creating robust business models and scaling startups, guiding participants on how to structure their business ideas for sustainability and growth.

This workshop aligns directly with SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, which focuses on fostering innovation, building resilient infrastructure, and promoting sustainable industrialization. By equipping participants with the knowledge and tools to develop effective business models, the workshop contributed to enhancing entrepreneurial capacity and supporting the creation of new startups. These startups, in turn, can play a key role in driving innovation and sustainable economic development. The focus on business model innovation is crucial for creating sustainable industries and infrastructure, ultimately supporting the growth of resilient and innovative industries in line with the objectives of SDG 9.

Workshop on “Branding Science From Basics to Brilliance” by Engr Shahab Hadi

A workshop titled “Branding Science: From Basics to Brilliance” was conducted by Engr. Shahab Hadi, the Founding CEO of BeOner Group of Companies and General Secretary of Digital Transformation Movement Pakistan (DTMP). A serial entrepreneur, Amazon seller, and digital marketing expert, Engr. Shahab shared his extensive knowledge and experience in building strong, impactful brands in the digital age. Through his insights on the fundamentals of branding, strategic marketing, and leveraging digital platforms, he provided attendees with practical tools to elevate their business identities and create lasting connections with their target audience. His expertise in digital transformation and e-commerce, combined with his leadership in driving innovation, helped guide aspiring entrepreneurs toward achieving business excellence.

Workshop on “Conflict Management and Resolution at Workplace” by Dr. Muhammad Aleem

A workshop on “Conflict Management and Resolution at the Workplace” was conducted by Dr. Muhammad Aleem, a distinguished academic and the Head of the Department of Management Sciences at CECOS University of IT and Emerging Sciences in Peshawar. With a PhD in Management Sciences and a wealth of experience in academia, Dr. Aleem shared valuable strategies for effectively managing and resolving conflicts in professional settings. His insights into conflict resolution not only equipped participants with practical tools to handle workplace challenges but also emphasized the importance of fostering collaborative, productive work environments. By focusing on building strong communication skills, promoting teamwork, and resolving disputes efficiently, the workshop aimed to create harmonious workplaces where employees can thrive and contribute to organizational success.

With over 32 years of rich experience and an M.Phil. degree in Development Studies, Mr. Ehtisham Ahmad has developed exceptional skills in civil-military coordination, humanitarian and socio-economic issues, and youth development. His extensive experience, particularly in Pakistan and within the UN work environment, has enabled him to mentor and empower young minds across Pakistan. Known for his exceptional interpersonal and teaching skills, Mr. Ahmad is passionate about grooming the youth, addressing mindset and motivation challenges, and enhancing their understanding of security institutions. His training sessions have had a significant impact on students and faculty in various colleges and universities in KPK, helping to shape future leaders and encourage continuous improvement.

Co-founder of a social enterprise that used technology, design, and art to revitalize the city’s business landscape, Salman has over 15 years of experience as an Assistant Professor at Edwardes College. With a background in management sciences and business incubation, honed through the Australia Awards program at the University of Queensland, he actively mentors young entrepreneurs and facilitates events like TechStars Startups Weekends. His expertise in management, leadership, and negotiation has empowered many individuals to develop their skills and transform their ideas into viable businesses. Currently pursuing a Ph.D. in management, Salman’s work in fostering entrepreneurship and innovation is central to building a more robust and sustainable business environment.
