GIK Institute’s Mechanical Engineering program has been one of the leading programs since its inception, producing over 1000+ graduates in the last twenty years. FME is ISO 9001:2015 certified. ISO re-accreditation is done in the year 2019-20.

FME BS degree is recognized as equivalent to a degree from Washington Accord (WA) signatory countries as our degree program is a accredited by Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) under Level-II category i.e., Washington Accord (WA) accredited engineering degree.

Faculty Mission

The faculty is aimed at producing professionals with sound knowledge base, leadership quality and social rectitude. They are also capable to intelligently respond and adapt to technological advancements in the field of Mechanical Engineering.

Our Programs

We offer a 4-year engineering degree program leading to Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, with specialization options (streams); Thermo-fluids, Design & Manufacturing and System Dynamics & Controls

MS and PhD degree programs are offered in following fields:

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the website of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute (GIKI). Our faculty is committed to providing an outstanding education to our students, preparing them to become leaders in the field of mechanical engineering. Our programs are designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience needed to succeed in the ever-changing and dynamic field of mechanical engineering. We offer a range of undergraduate and graduate programs that are tailored to meet the diverse needs and interests of our students.

The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute (GIKI) has been accredited by the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) for four years at Level-II, which indicates that the programs offered by the faculty meet the highest standards of quality and relevance. The accreditation is based on the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) system, which emphasizes the development of skills and competencies among students through a rigorous and systematic approach to teaching and learning. The accreditation by PEC is a testament to the faculty’s commitment to excellence in education and research. It ensures that the programs offered by the faculty are recognized and valued by industry, academia, and other stakeholders. The OBE system, which underpins the accreditation, is designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to succeed in the rapidly changing and globalized world of engineering.

FME has adopted student centric OBE system that leads to enhanced learning outcomes for students and relies heavily on continuous quality improvement. Moreover, curriculum is continuously revised keeping in view the country’s industrial needs as well as adopting best international practices. Our students are thus equipped with twelve key graduate attributes or Program Learning Outcomes. These attributes or learning outcomes groom students with sound intellectual, theoretical and practical experiences that qualify them to address a variety of societal needs ethically. Thus, enabling graduating students to step with confidence into industry, research organizations or in the domain of higher education. FME firmly believes the education we provide will enable our graduates to stand out from the crowd and has the potential to rise and shine.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

PEO_1. Graduates practicing in a variety of Mechanical engineering and allied disciplines.

PEO_2. Graduates performing in a responsible, professional and ethical manner as an individual and a part of team.

PEO_3. Graduates advancing their knowledge and excelling in the chosen domain.

Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs)

The program learning outcomes are given below. 

1. Engineering Knowledge:

An ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex mechanical engineering problems.

2. Problem Analysis:

An ability to identify, formulate, research literature and analyze complex mechanical engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences and engineering sciences.

3. Design/Development of Solutions:

An ability to design solutions for complex mechanical engineering problems and design systems, components or processes that meet specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.

4. Investigation:

An ability to investigate complex mechanical engineering problems in a methodical way including literature survey, design and conduct of experiments, analysis and interpretation of experimental data and synthesis of information to derive valid conclusions.

5. Modern Tool Usage:

An ability to crate, select and apply appropriate techniques, resources and modern engineering and IT tools, including prediction and modelling, to complex mechanical engineering activities, with an understanding of limitations.

6. The Engineer and Society:

An ability to apply reasoning informed by contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to professional engineering practice and solution to complex mechanical engineering problems.

7. Environment and Sustainability:

An ability to understand the impact of professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts and demonstrate knowledge of and need for sustainable development.

8. Ethics:

Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of engineering practice.

9. Individual and Teamwork:

An ability to work effectively as an individual or in a team, on multifaceted and/or multidisciplinary settings.

10. Communication:

An ability to communicate effectively, orally as well as in writing, on complex mechanical engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as being able to comprehend and write effective report and design documentation, make effective presentations and give and receive clear instructions.

11. Project Management:

An ability to demonstrate management skills and apply engineering principles to one’s own work, as a member and/or leader in a team, to manage projects in a multidisciplinary environment.

12. Life long Learning:

An ability to recognize importance of and pursue lifelong learning in the broader context of innovation and technological developments.
