GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING LAB

geotechnical engineering labThe lab has one of the most advanced Triaxial testing machine and direct shear test machine. The lab also has the sufficient gear to analyze soil properties, their gradation, moisture values, and Atterburg’s limits. The constant and falling head apparatus is also present for the determination of permeability and the verification of Darcy’s law. The standard and modified proctor test equipment can be used to calculate the dry density as well as the bulk density of the soil for the optimum moisture content. The laboratory also contains field equipment; the standard penetration test apparatus, the speedy moisture kit, and the field density measuring equipment (Sand cone, core cutter, Balloon apparatus).

HYDROLOGY LAB

This laboratory is equipped with borehole data loggers, Current Meters, Survey and Leveling Instruments, Depth Recorders, Water Level Recorders, Earth Resistivity Meters, and instruments for evaporation studies. This laboratory provides facilities for hydrometeorology studies.

CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS AND CONCRETE TECHNOLOGY LAB

concrete technology labThe construction materials and concrete technology lab has a very high-quality Universal testing machine (UTM) that is computer controlled and also gives output in the form of digital data. The Machine is the latest and highly efficient. It can perform the tensile as well as the compression tests on both; concrete and steel specimens. The lab also contains the equipment for testing the properties of fresh concrete, the soundness, and the properties of aggregates.

HYDRAULICS / FLUID MECHANICS

fluid mechanics labThe hydraulics/fluid mechanics lab measures the fluid flow, discharges, and energy losses during flow through open channels and conduits. It is equipped with multiple hydraulic benches beside pressure gauges, venturi-flume, Bernoulli’s theorem apparatus, drag coefficient apparatus, the impact of jet, and equipment for measuring the head losses in different cases including various materials and types of bends and valves.

ENVIRONMENT ENGINEERING

The environmental engineering lab is equipped with standard facilities that can offer services for commercial testing as well. The lab has water and wastewater testing equipment comprising DO meter, COD, and BOD meter along with incubators, multipurpose pH and EC meter, nephelometric turbidity meter, and Jar test apparatus to ascertain the number of coagulants.

MECHANICS OF STRUCTURES

mechanics of solids labThe mechanics of structures lab provides the latest facilities to idealize structural response, the function of individual members, and the behavior of structures in different scenarios and loading conditions. The equipment can be used to measure torsion, moments, deflections unsymmetrical and symmetrical bending, and impact and ductility tests

SURVEYING LAB

The lab also possesses 3 refractive-less total stations which can survey any distance their lens can see.  Besides numerous workstations of basic and advanced surveying, the lab has an ample number of theodolites and auto levels of foreign origin.

HIGHWAY AND TRANSPORTATION ENGINEERING

highway engineering labThis lab is used to test pavement materials, consisting of both the binder and the aggregates. The lab has the ability to perform the penetration and grading, flash and fire point, and ductility tests of bitumen on the one hand and on the other can be used to test the impact, abrasion, and fatigue resistance of the aggregates along with the flakiness index and the elongation numbers of aggregates. Plate load testing and California Bearing Ratio (CBR) test can be readily performed in the Lab.

SOIL MECHANICS LAB

soil mechanics labThis lab helps to enhance knowledge about Soil Mechanics and guides to familiar with fundamental mechanical and chemical properties of soil under loading. The students can implement several field and laboratory experiment methods that are required for civil engineers, especially in Soil Mechanic Course.

CIVIL ENGINEERING DRAWING AND GRAPHICS

computer lab department of civil engineering gik

The lab is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and software to assist civil engineering students in developing their technical drawing and graphic design skills.

Students can use the lab to learn and practice drafting techniques, such as freehand sketching, lettering, and orthographic projection. They can also use computer-aided design (CAD) software to create 2D and 3D models of engineering structures and systems.
