Theories of friction. Mechanism of wear, adhesive, abrasive, corrosive and other retypes of wear measurement, Properties of lubricants, Solid film lubrication, and Boundary lubrication. Hydrodynamic lubrication: Reynolds equation, Types and selection of bearings, Design procedure and performance evaluation of bearings. Energy equation and effective viscosity concept, hydrostatic lubrication, surface treatments, Elastro-hydro-dynamic lubrication, Extreme pressure lubrication.
