Prof. Dr. Wasim Ahmed Khan appointed to the post of the 10th Pro-Rector (Academics) of the Institute.

The Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology, Topi has appointed Professor Dr. Wasim Ahmed Khan to the post of the 10th Pro-Rector (Academics) of the Institute. Professor Khan has Succeeded Professor Dr. Jameel Un Nabi who relinquished the charge of the office.

Professor Khan of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering carries with him wide experience of teaching, research and development and educational management. He holds the first degree in Mechanical Engineering from NED University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi, Pakistan. He later obtained a Ph. D.  degree in Operations Research from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Sheffield, England, UK.

He is a life member of Pakistan Engineering Council. He is also a chartered engineer (CEng) of the Engineering Council, UK, and a fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, UK. Professor Khan was recently elected as the senior member of Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, USA. He is also a member of the IEEE Computer Society.

He has two books as the principal author by Springer, UK and CRC Press, Taylor and Francis Group, USA. He is also the CRC Press, Taylor and Francis Group, USA Book Series Editor. So far, he has published two books under his series as the principal editor. The book series theme is ‘Computers in Engineering Design and Manufacturing’. He is a reviewer of several internationally reputed journals including Virtual Reality, Manufacturing Systems, and International Journal of Computer Integrated Manufacturing

Professor Khan is the founder of Advance Manufacturing Processes Laboratory (AMPL), Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, GIK Institute. Professor Khan is the principal investigator for two research grants totaling PKR 228 Million from the Directorate of Science & Technology, Department of Science and Technology & IT, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

His current research and development interests include development of indigenous CNC machine tools and Flexible Manufacturing Cells (FMCs), indigenous development of revolute robots and collaborative robots, AR/VR, industrial management in the Industry 4.0 paradigm.

Under his leadership as a Pro-Rector (Academics), It is hoped that the GIK Institute will flourish in the fields of research and development, and academics.
