Introduction to materials evaluation techniques; their role in quality assurace and production environments. Classification of materials evaluation techniques. Destructive testing – hardness, tensile, compression, impact, fatigue and creep. Light optical microscopy and quantitative metallography. Advanced Microscopic techniques i.e. SEM, TEM, non-destructive testing, radiography, eddy current and ultrasonic techniques. Magniflux and fluorescence methods. introduction to spectroscopy, DTA, DSC, thermocouples & temperature measurements strain gange and load cell. Vacuum systems.
