SPIE-OPTICA GIKI Chapter Organized Photonics Pakistan’22

SPIE-OPTICA under the Department of Student Affairs organized an All-Pakistan Event on 25th, 26th and 27th of November 2022 named as “Photonics Pakistan’22” at GIK Institute. More than 200 participants registered for the event from different Universities/Institutions. The purpose of the event was to educate the participants and the students of GIK Institute about photonics and its scope in the world. To organize the three-day national event different modules were organized to engage the participants.

Some of the modules included were Photonics Trivia, Coinage Challenge, Photonics Workshop, Photonics project proposal, Optical illusion exhibition, Laser maze, presentations. The importance of photonics and an introduction session was given to the participants. The participants were practically engaged in a photonics workshop to demonstrate the different equipment used and its importance in day-to-day life. The participants were given the task of writing a project proposal on photonics and a presentation on photonics. An optical illusion is something that plays tricks on your vision, Optical illusions teach us how our eyes and brain work together to see, in this regard an optical illusion exhibition was organized for the participants. Laser was introduced to the participants and the students of GIK Institute, during the introduction a Lazer Maze was setup for the participants, the importance of the laser and its uses were discussed, especially in the field of the medical. Care development and mental health awareness sessions were also organized to educate the participants.

The participants were engaged in a hiking trip on the mountains of the GIK Institute, they were also entertained with the theme dinner and a Qawali night. Winners and those who participated in different modules were awarded prizes and certificates. The Honorable Rector GIK Institute Prof. Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid (SI) was invited as a Chief guest on the closing ceremony, and he distributed certificates/prizes among the participants.
