Anti Tobacco Awareness Seminar By The Student Affairs Department
Mr Sabahat Hussain, Assistant Director Student Affairs/Student Affairs Department assisted by the Project Topi and Character-Building Society had organized an Awareness seminar on Anti-Tobacco. In this regard a team from Shaukat Khanam Hospital along with the Regional Manager of Shaukat Khanam Hospital Peshawar delivered a session on the negative consequences of Tobacco on Friday 27th May 2022. Dr Muhammad Imran Khan Dean Student Affairs, Mr Muhammad Faheem Akhtar Director Admissions and Examinations, Mr Muhammad Ismail Director Facilitation, Mr Muhammad Waqas DD Admissions and Examinations were the special invitee in the seminar. Mr Muhammad Faheem Akhtar graced the seminar with the closing remarks.
With more than 8 million people falling prey to Tobacco induced mortality; Tobacco remains the single most preventable cause of ailment and dissolution.
This session also marked the “World No Tobacco Day”, formally observed annually on the 31st of May.
Smoking increases the risk of at least twenty different kinds on cancers. Nearly 40% of cancers in adult males seen at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Centre (SKMCH & RC) can be linked to the use of tobacco while 160,000 people die from tobacco related cases annually in Pakistan.
Tobacco use is the single most preventable cause of cancer and education of public related to prevention of cancer is an important part of the mission of SKMCH&RC. To make this mission successful, Shaukat Khanum Hospital conducted Anti-Tobacco Awareness sessions for the students/faculty/staff of GIK Institute along with the Shaukat Khanum. Anti-Tobacco Awareness Walk was also carried out to empower young students with life-saving knowledge to fight tobacco related cancers.
